Responds to emergency incidents, ensuring prompt response with appropriate equipment. Routinely inspect fire stations to ensure the operational readiness of equipment, apparatus and personnel as well as the cleanliness of stations; maintains responsibility for equipment maintenance at all facilities. Participates in drills and training exercises. Represents the department in government and civic meetings. Keeps abreast of new technology, methods and regulations for fire prevention and suppression operations. Operates a fire engine and motor vehicle, fire pumper, mobile command unit, fire rescue tools and respiratory equipment, and utilizes various office and other machines including a calculator, computer, two-way radio, hand tools, audio-visual equipment, etc. Ensures fire equipment is maintained in proper, safe working conditions. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as co-workers, subordinates, County department heads and staff, other fire departments, civic organizations, Forestry Commission, other emergency response agencies, law enforcement agencies, and the general public. Must be at least 18 years of age, at time of employment. Able to successfully complete physical agility test. Must successfully pass medical physical examination and pass testing for illegal drugs/substances. High School graduate or equivalent. Must possess Firefighter I certification. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
